I grew up during a time when speaking in tongues was becoming "the thing." I didnt speak in tongues at the time because I was Baptist and we didnt believe in that manifestation, but I was seeking.
During that time in my life I remeber clearly thinking about all the people i knew that spoke in tongues and called themselves Christians and how eveil they were. I mean I thought if you could get that close to God that youre speaking His language then surely you wouldnt cuss somebody out when you were angry. lol
I was thinking yesterday some 25 years later how we have a "movement" toward the presence of God. Everybody is talking about signs and wonders and the presence. I want the presence of God too...I think.
You see I see the same trend going on today where people are engrossed with His presence but off the stage, outside the pew they are no different, they are uneffected by His presence.
Churches want Miracles, People want miracles we all want to see God manifest Himself. Its easy to go after "The Presence" with wrong motivations. To think we can actually fool God...not happening.
We dont need miracles so our churches will grow. We dont need people healed by your hand for your glory. "Not unto us but unto thy name" Ps 115:1
Dont get me wrong please dont get me wrong. I want to see God do exploits...period.
What is the purpose of being in "The Presence" if we arent going to be changed?
We are there for more than worship, empowerment, rest, to listen and so forth and so on. We are there also to be changed.
The scripture says, II Cor. 3:18
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory,even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
I mean how are people going to get that close to God and yet come away unchanged, unscared, unmarred.
God Scar us in your presence, Mar us with your love and Change us in the light of your glory.
We want to look like you more than anything, We want to talk like you and be concerned for people like you are. We dont want to be mean in the outter courts as we deal with our brothers and sisters failures.
We dont want to be numb to the cry of the helpless because of our agendas. Change our Hearts, our Attitudes, our ways of dealing with our children and significant other. We should be better, we should be better, We should be better because of the experience of your presence. We should be broken and humbled so we give ourselves to that today as we seek to be once again in your presence.
Your presence is a dangerous place to be in.
